Wow, I can't believe it have have been on a blog posting roll this week! LOL! I guess I am just trying to make up for lost time. ;) The card I am sharing with you today is the Birthday card that I made for my Mom. My mom really likes geraniums so I knew that this vintage image of the geraniums from Crafty Secrets, Garden Creative Scraps would be perfect for her birthday card. I wanted to create a background that would be somewhat similar to the Creative Scraps image but I didn't want it to be too over powering and take away from the image. I went looking through my stash and decided to use stamps from two Stampers Anonymous stamp sets from the Tim Holtz Collection. The flowers are from the Flights of Fancy set and the bird and script writing are from the Urban Grunge set. To get the two tone look on the flowers I did the rock-n-roll technique using Distress Ink, Peeled Paint (green) from Ranger and Ruby Red ink from SU. For the script I used Distress Ink, Vintage Photo from Ranger and for the bird I used Memento, Rich Cocoa from Tsukineko. The prima flowers started out as a light pink and I wanted to darken them up just a bit so I used a blender pen and the Ruby Red ink. I started in the center and worked my way to the outer edges. For the flower centers I used dew drops from The Robin's Nest. Then I added a few little twig punches and some Flower Soft for dimension. I love the look of Flower Soft! When I received my Flower Soft I had some fun with it and created my own mixes. I had a few container that were just a little smaller than the Flower Soft ones so I mixed a few jars of colors that I thought would look good together. For the Flower Soft that was used on this card I mixed three different colors, Christmas Green, Shamrock Green and Nut Brown. I think this mixture has a real earthy look to it and kind of reminds me of moss. If you have some Flower Soft I encourage you to mix up a few of your favorite colors and have some fun it.
