Thank you, Spellbinders™ Paper Arts, for sponsoring this contest!

I’m thrilled to share S4-296 Nested Hearts die templates with you!

Here is the S4-296 Nested Hearts die template set. I place a quarter in the image to show the scale of the die templates.

Here is a picture of the card I created using the S4-296 Nested Hearts die template set along with a step-by-step tutorial.

To start I created a sandwich with the mats: White Master Mat, Magnetic Spacer Plate, S4-296 Nested Hearts die template, a piece of cardstock from The Rustic Stack and another White Master Mat. For this step I used the largest nested heart. Put the mats through the Wizard™ to cut.

The next step will be to create a sandwich to emboss: White Master Mat, S4-296 Nested Hearts with the paper, Tan Embossing Mat and another White Mater Mat. Feed the sandwich through the Wizard™ to emboss. Once the largest heart has been cut/embossed the next step is to airbrush. Leave the paper in place and airbrush through the die template. For the first color I used Copic marker E15 Dark Suntan. Then I airbrushed the edges of the flourishes using Copic marker 100 Black. I created a mat for the largest heart diecut by placing the die template face up and using a stylus to trace around the die template. I am using Copper Foil Engraving Art paper for this step so the stylus works really good. For cardstock I would use a pencil to trace around the die template. Then I hand cut the shape with a scissors. Lightly sand the edges of the Engraving Art Foil to reveal the copper.Next I did the Reverse Stencil technique for the medium heart from the S4-296 Nested Hearts die templates. To do the reverse stencil, have the die template with the ridges facing up and ink the inside of the die template. Then cut/emboss as usual.

Then I used a piece of Engraving Art Foil to cut/emboss the lock from S4-298 Antiquities die templates. Save the little key hole drop out piece to used in one of the next steps.Lightly sand the lock to reveal some of the copper and then add copper eyelets and black brads to finish the lock. Here is a picture of all the diecuts to create the layered nested heart locket. To layer all of the pieces and add dimension I used 3D Foam Squares from SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES by 3L™. For the next step I created the background. I cut the I2-1009 Flourish Impressabilities™ in half and then I cut out a couple of pieces from the center. I used a removable adhesive to tape the Impressabilities™ piece in place and then embossed in the Wizard™. This is a great technique to used if the paper is bigger than the Impressabilities™.Here is the result, beautifully embossed edges. Now if you don't like to do all of the inking you could stop right here but I personally like to get my fingers inky! I inked the edges of the paper with Antique Linen Distress Ink from Ranger.I added Vintage Photo Distress Ink for a second color and to add more depth to the paper. For the last step on the background I used a distressing tool to distress the edges of the paper. For one of the last steps I created a tag with a sentiment. I used Engraving Art Foil to to cut/emboss the tag from the S4-235 Fancy Tags die template and then I sanded the tag to reveal the copper. The sentiment was created using one of the stamps from JB-09720 Romantic Sentiments with the Wood 1-5/8'' Round Stamper from JustRite Stampers. I stamped the sentiment onto ivory cardstock with Tuxedo Black ink and then made a die cut using S4-290 Label Fourteen die template. I also inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I made one other diecut (not pictured) of the key from the S4-298 Antiquities die templates using Engraving Art Foil and sanded the edges to reveal the copper. Once all of the diecuts were made then I began to assemble the card. To layer all of the diecuts I used 3D Foam Squares from SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES By 3L™.Here's a couple of close up pictures of the tag and the key.Supplies:

  62. I LOVE everything you made! That card is stunning! But I have a question:

    Reverse Stencil technique...
you have the die upside down and ink it before turning it over onto paper to cut, correct? if yes, then...how do you pick it up to turn over onto the paper without messing up the ink?

    Beautiful Dies!!

    Thanks, Susan
